Why Parris Campbell is a perfect fit in Indy

The Colts made 9 selections at the 2019 NFL draft, almost all of them on defense but in the 3rd round, they picked a perfect new weapon for quarterback Andrew Luck when they selected Ohio State wide receiver Parris Campbell. They already have a deep-threat receiver in TY Hilton and they have their big bodied, endzone targets in Eric Ebron and Devin Funchess. Now, they have a guy that can do it all, no matter where they are on the field.

The first thing that stands out with Campbell is his speed. He ran a 4.32 at the NFL combine earlier this year, tying him with Andy Isabella for the fastest time among receivers. You can see in the GIF below that if you give him a little bit of separation, he's gone.

A game where he really displays this is Ohio State's game against Michigan last season. Michigan came in with the best defense in the country but couldn't keep up with Campbell's speed. He ended up with 192 yards and 2 touchdowns on the day.

Another thing Indy loves about Campbell is the many different ways he can be used. You can line him out wide and send him long, you can put him in the slot and run short routes, you can even line him up in the backfield and take handoffs. The goal is to get him the ball as much as possible and the Colts plan on doing that. Campbell is now one more weapon that defense's need to take note of every second that he's on the field. Most importantly, he's gonna take a ton of pressure and attention off of TY Hilton. Last year, if Hilton wasn't on the field, Indianapolis' offense really struggled. When the Colts went on that late season winning streak that propelled them into the playoffs, Hilton had to play every game and carried that receiving core to the playoffs. Campbell gives Luck another option and should hopefully prevent teams from focusing solely on Hilton. The Colts had a fun offense to watch last year, adding Campbell should only make them more enjoyable to watch.

  1. I definitely see Campbell being a big threat to teams. He will definitely require some extra attention, which is going to create some problems considering TY Hilton already requires special attention
