Doug Baldwin and Kam Chancellor both cut as Seattle looks to the future

The Seahawks announced Thursday night that they have cut both wide receiver Doug Baldwin and safety Kam Chancellor. Seattle released the following statement last night;

"The Seahawks have made the difficult decision to terminate/failed physical Doug Baldwin and Kam Chancellor," Seahawks general manager John Schneider said in a statement. "These are two of the most iconic players in franchise history and both were instrumental in establishing our championship culture, great examples of competitiveness and leadership on the field and in the community. These legendary players will always be a part of our Seahawks family."

This doesn't come as much of a shock to anyone around the league. Both Baldwin and Chancellor have been dealing with very significant injuries the last few seasons. Baldwin has had multiple surgeries since the end of last season, the last one for a sports hernia. and Chancellor missed all of last season after dealing with a career-threatening neck injury. Seattle now only has three players remaining from their 2013 Super Bowl team: Russel Wilson, Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright. Baldwin is expected to be replaced by D.K. Metcalf, who they drafted in April. With both of their injuries, I'd be surprised if any team decided to sign them. It's another sad situation that makes you think what could have been if both of their bodies had held up for a full career.

  1. With D.K. Metcalf on the roster now I think Seattle will be just fine without Doug Baldwin

  2. N'Keal Harry would have been a good replacement for Doug Baldwin as well, but Seattle should be fine with D.K and Russ
