The Biggest Storylines from Night 1 of the Draft

With the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft in the books, we definitely weren't lacking in drama and entertainment throughout the night. teams trading up, teams trading out of the 1st round, and surprise picks all night long. There's probably too many to talk about without boring you all so here's some that I found especially interesting.

Raiders select Clelin Ferrell #4 overall

It didn't take long for us to get our first shocking pick in the draft. With Oakland sitting with the 4th pick, and Kyler Murray, Nick Bosa and Quinnen Williams off the board. Everybody was expecting this pick to be either Devin White or Josh Allen. Oakland went WAY out of left field by taking Clelin Ferrell from Clemson. The Raiders do need pass rushers and Ferrell can certainly do just that. But with Josh Allen, Montez Sweat and Rashan Gary still on the board. New General Manager Mike Mayock is certainly taking a large risk with his first pick. This Raider fan's reaction says it all.

Giants Take a QB at #6

This might be the pick that created the most buzz both on and off social media. The Giants have been rumored to select a QB with one of their first round picks for the entire draft process. For a while it was believed that they would be taking Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins with their 6th pick. But recently, it had been reported that Giants' GM Dave Gettlemen decided on Daniel Jones as his QB. With many expecting New York to go Defense with the 6th and then Jones with the 17th pick, New York shocked everyone by going ahead and taking Jones with the 6th pick. Here's some Giant's fan reactions to the Jones pick.

Now obviously If  Jones turns into a superstar all will be forgiven but The Giants could have grabbed a very good defensive player with their early pick and probably still could have grabbed Daniel Jones with their 17th pick. Dave Gettlemen has now essentially tied his career around Daniel Jones panning out which is not looking likely.

Greedy Williams falls out of the 1st round

Last night was not a good night to be a cornerback at the NFL draft. Deandre Baker ended up being the only CB taken in the 1st round, going to the Giants with the 30th pick. But where was Greedy Williams? A lot of expert's #1 CB in this draft, Williams had been projected to be a top 10 pick at the start of the year. But slowly but surely, his stock has tanked after talk about his issues with tackling have come up. Even with his minor issues, he was still supposed to be a 1st round pick and now a team may find themselves with a hell of a player and a bargain in the second round.
