Is Russell Wilson going to NYC?

UPDATE: Just minutes before the deadline hit, The Seahawks and Wilson have agreed to a four year, 140 million dollar extension with 65 million guaranteed. This makes Wilson the top paid player in the NFL. With the extension, Wilson is now under contract with Seattle through the 2023 season.

As of writing this it would appear that the Seattle Seahawks and QB Russell Wilson have not been able to successfully negotiate a new deal for Wilson. Wilson's agent had stated that if they could not come to an agreement by midnight tonight, Wilson would cut off all talks and not talk contracts again until the end of the season. There's a lot of speculation that Wilson wants out of Seattle. Recently, Cheifs' safety Tyrann Mathieu tweeted out a rumor about Wilson wanting to go to the Giants.

The situation with New York definitely makes this interesting. New York has 2 first round draft picks (6th and 17th overall) this year to use as trade assets to acquire Wilson if they decide to get serious about a trade. Seattle would obviously want a little more compensation for the All-Pro quarterback but I don't believe the Giants are too far off from making this happen. Seattle is in a really tough spot. They have to choose between paying Wilson and limiting their cap space even more than it already is, or let him walk and essentially go into rebuild mode. If it becomes clear that Wilson wants out of Seattle, The Seahawks have to do everything in their power to trade him and at least get some picks for him. The longer they wait however, the more bargaining power they lose to potential trade partners. If they lose Wilson, it will be an absolute disaster for a team that had the chance to become a dynasty and win multiple Super Bowls.
